I'm currently on this continuing case, and new counsel on the other side wanted to hook up with LiveNote. I'm already giving our client a real-time feed to Bridge on my spare laptop, so I thought it shouldn't be a problem to do another feed to LiveNote. Well, it was a problem.
I'm using the wireless Stenocast RED, which I love and haven't had any problems with. It is not the culprit in this situation. I've been doing an arbitration for this same client recently using Stenocast RED, feeding Bridge out to my spare laptop. No problem.
I had my output settings in Eclipse correct: one output for LiveNote on COM 20, 2400 baud, Summation/CaseView; one output for Bridge on COM 21, 38,400 baud. Eclipse confirmed these settings were right.
The problem I was having was the computer kept losing my connection to my writer, a ProCAT Stylus. So I switched from using Bluetooth to the real-time cable in case it was the Bluetooth that was causing the problem. Still kept losing the connection.
The first day of this problem, I called Eclipse tech support. They initially suggested maybe it was a BlackBerry interfering. I had everyone turn off their cell phones. The tech guy at the law firm even turned off the wireless router for the Internet. Still kept losing the connection to my writer.
Second day of this problem, I got ahold of a different (apparently smarter) tech guy at Eclipse, and he suggested the solution that actually worked. And it was a weird one, one I've never experienced or ever heard of. And the reason I'm posting it here is I think it would be smart if more reporters went ahead and did this fix in case they're ever faced with the same situation.
He suggested I go into the Device Manager, expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers, right click on the first USB Root Hub, go to Properies, go to Power Management, and UNCHECK "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power." And do that same sequence for each of the USB Root Hubs listed.
That fixed my problem. The third day I was able to feed to both LiveNote and Bridge without a problem. Thank God!
